The special feature of this particular event lies on the one hand in the beginning partnership of our association with the Czech association "Studio Volantes", organizer of the baroque festival in Olomouc, and the Slovenian stage director Rocc, on the other hand the first performance of this rediscovered oratorio of one of the most important composers of Viennese classicism, who was active in Silesia and Bohemia.
Carl Ditters von Dittersdorf was born in Vienna in 1739 and learned composition and violin as well. In fact, he accompanied Christoph Willibald Gluck on his trip to Italy in 1763, where he celebrated great success as a violin virtuoso. In 1770 Ditters became Kapellmeister to the Prince-Bishop of Breslau, Philipp Gotthard von Schaffhotsch, at Johannisberg Castle (Jansky Vrch) in Jauernig (Javornik).
The place is right on the border with Poland, in Klodzko Land, a place with a great tradition of theater and music. In fact, the Bishop of Wrocław wanted to turn this place into a cultural center and gave Carl Ditters the task of forming an orchestra and writing music there.
In 1773 he was ennobled by the Emperor, and (like Mozart) he was awarded the Order of the Golden Spur by the Pope. Around 1790 he became Kapellmeister to Duke Carl Christian Erdmann von Würtennberg-Oels (1716-1792) in Oels (Olesnica) in Lower Silesia. In the summer months, this orchestra played music in Carlsruhe (today Pokój in Upper Silesia), which was the duke's summer residence at the time. He died in 1799 in Neuhof near Deschna ( Deštná, South Bohemia) after dictating his autoniography to his son, today an important source of information about the music of his time. He wrote 32 operas and singspiele, many concerts (two double bass concerts in between), 12 symphonies, trios, Quertatte and piano pieces, divertimenti, oratorios, ballets and other church music. Among his pupils: Wenzel Müller and Johann Baptist Wanhal.
DAVIDE NELLA VALLE DI TERREBINTHO
The oratorio deals with the biblical theme of the battle between David and Goliath that took place in the Valley of Elah (also called the Terebinths). The story is told in the book of Samuel 17-51.

ABOUT THE ORATORIUM
One of the Bible's most famous stories comes to life in this tale of courage, faith and boldness. David, a gentle shepherd who loves music and poetry, hears a heavenly voice electing him, an ordinary youth, to be his nation's great savior. The inner decision is not easy: to leave father and home and face the invincible Goliath. In the end, David defeats the giant with his ingenuity and deep belief in goodness, and thanks to his bravery he eventually becomes king of Israel.
The originally baroque oratorio is interpreted on historical musical instruments and staged as a current story of determination and inner courage in the face of omnipresent, seemingly insurmountable danger. "David" is an international interdisciplinary project that, in addition to the historical performance practice of the music, also includes the components of acting, expressive dance and art using video projections (live recordings of the performers during the performance).
Be drawn into David's story and learn what true courage still means today.
