IL DAVIDE (2023)
Der in Slowenien geborene Opernregisseur, Bühnenbildner, Dramaturg, Performancekünstler, Opernmanager und Pädagoge Rocc (geb. Rok Rappl 1979 in Ljubljana) studierte „Opernregie“ an der Janáček-Akademie für Musik und darstellende Kunst in Brünn, Tschechische Republik ( 1998-2003, Master of Arts), gefolgt von einem Aufbaustudium in „Szenografie“ an den Hochschulen für Kunst und Design in Zürich, Schweiz (2003-2005, Executive Master) und bei Rosalie in Offenbach am Main, Deutschland (2005- 2006). Er erhielt ein Stipendium des Kulturministeriums der Republik Slowenien und Unterstützung von der Slowenischen Akademie der Wissenschaften und Künste. Sein Pseudonym ist eine Hommage an Marie Mrázková, Roccs Professorin für Bühnenschauspiel und seine Lebensmentorin.
Rocc hat mehr als 60 Opernproduktionen an den Opernhäusern in Ljubljana, Prag, Brünn, Ostrava, Riga, Breslau, im Grieg-Saal und im Nationaltheater in Bergen, im Cankar-Zentrum in Ljubljana und andere Orte inszeniert. Seine Projekte wurden auf mehreren internationalen Festivals präsentiert, darunter den ISCM World Music Days, dem Ljubljana Festival, dem Bergen International Festival, der Prague Quadrennial, dem OPERA Festival in Prag, dem Janáček Brno Festival, dem Mährischen Herbstmusikfestival in Brünn und dem Festival für neue Musik in Brünn , Musica non grata-Projekt in der Tschechischen Republik, Warschauer Herbstfestival für zeitgenössische Musik, Audio Art Festival in Krakau, Festival für Kirchenmusik in Pordenone, Tag des Komponisten in den Niederlanden. Rocc hat eine besondere Affinität zur zeitgenössischen Oper, die alternativen Klang, darstellende und installierende Künste, neue Medien und ortsspezifische Projekte kombiniert. Seit 2013 ist er Initiator und künstlerischer Leiter von Concept operapovera, einem Ensemble mit Schwerpunkt auf zeitgenössischer und experimenteller Musiktheater-Ästhetik.
In der Saison 2007/2008 war Rocc Dramaturg der Slowenischen Nationaloper in Maribor. In der Saison 2008/2009 war er stellvertretender künstlerischer Leiter und Dramaturg der Janáček-Oper des Nationaltheaters Brünn, von 2009 bis 2011 war er künstlerischer Leiter der Janáček-Oper und Mitglied des Programmausschusses des Internationalen Janáček-Brünner-Festivals. Von 2011 bis 2013 war er künstlerischer Leiter der Prager Staatsoper, die seit 2012 der Nationaloper in Prag angegliedert ist. Von 2013 bis 2019 war er künstlerischer Leiter der Slowenischen Nationaloper in seiner Heimatstadt Ljubljana.
Im Jahr 2018 erhielt Rocc die Anerkennung für bedeutende Kunstwerke, den höchsten künstlerischen Titel der Universität Ljubljana, der dem wissenschaftlichen Titel eines Doktors der Naturwissenschaften entspricht. Darüber hinaus ist er als Pädagoge für Opernregie und Opernschauspiel sowie als Mitglied professioneller Jurys tätig.

- He worked as a scenographer with the Leipziger Tanztheater (Germany) on the projects “LTT 24” (2005) and “failed” (2006), choreography by Canan Erek.
- Rocc has a special affinity for contemporary opera, he has already participated in 21 world premieres of various music-theatre projects.
- In 2006, on the occasion of the world premiere of the opera The Days the Nights by Vít Zouhar, directed and designed by Rocc, the documentary film “The Magic of One Flute” ("Kouzlo jedné flétny") was recorded by the Czech Television.
- In 2011 the book “History of Slovenia” (“Dějiny Slovinska”, published by Nakladatelství Lidové noviny) was published in the Czech Republic, where Rocc is listed as one of the most important Slovenian artists to be presented in the Czech Republic.
- In 2015 his staging of the new Slovene opera The Tenth Daughter by Milko Lazar at the National Opera Ljubljana was recorded by RTV Slovenija.
- On 23.12.2015 he directed and designed the Slovenian state celebration on the Day of independence and unity at the Cankar Centre (Gallus Hall) in Ljubljana with the direct transmission of RTV Slovenija.
- On 5.6.2019 he was the co-author of the project Echo–Metamorphoses: Gardens of Life and director of the Opening ceremony of the Prague Quadrennial 2019 at the Exhibition Grounds Prague, Czech Republic.
- On 23.10.2019 he directed the Festive celebration of the 80th anniversary of the Academy of Music of the University of Ljubljana at the Cankar Centre (Gallus Hall), recorded by RTV Slovenija.
